re: re: re: plastic surgery

Everything I learned about PS I learned from U Go Grr
There's this little website out there called Soompi, maybe you've heard of it? Anyway one of their authors wrote an article in response to another article based on a segment called This American Life which airs on NPR (at least where I am).

Sistar: successful girl group or front for nudist colony?

On a recent episode of "Shinhwa Broadcast," Sistar's vocal powerhouse Hyorin was revealed to sleep naked. Specifically, Shin Hye Sung introduced her by saying her name's Hyorin and she sleeps naked, which might be the best introduction for anyone I've ever heard.

While reading about this, though, I couldn't help but think, "Wait, Sistar's talking about being naked again? Didn't this just happen?"

Cheerz: 4Minute "Hot Issue"

I've had 4Minute on the mind for the past week or so because of 2Yoon and "24/7," so what better time to pull out this one.

10 things k-pop can teach western pop music

Some guy on AKP forums made a post about 10 things filthy Westerners Americans can learn from grorious k-pop asian music.

If only you were real Bieber-san.

Oh, finally

Zomg, it's been a long time since Sistar19's last release (633 days, not that anybody here is counting). Finally, though, the date's been set and the teaser pics dropped for the subgroup's comeback.

Everything you could ever want in your dorm room: a half-naked girl, Christmas lights and a Persian rug.

Kpop bitch faces: an appreciation piece

While looking up photos of a certain bitchy T-ara member, I realized how underappreciated and misunderstood the art of bitch facing is.

So as not to reveal the identity of the offending performer, I've obscured her face.

Cheerz: 2ne1 "I Am the Best"

I use this week's pick whenever I need to pump myself up. Why not? It's only one of the most narcissistic songs out there.

Also, it has my favorite hairstyle in all of kpop.

I will someday recreate this on myself, spiked jacket and all. And no, it won't be for Halloween.

Review: 2Yoon "24/7"

Ever since I found out 2Yoon's debut song, "24/7," was going to be country pop-themed, I've been quite excited for its release. And a little frightened of the outcome.

Once the banjo-laden teaser came out, I basically started foaming at the mouth. I loved it.

That being said, in full, "24/7" disappointed me slightly. The teaser was so addictive and country, and the full song diverged from that more than I'd hoped.

Dammit, why couldn't it all just be banjo?

A couple laid-back tracks

I have emerged from the dramaland rabbit hole *sigh* to talk about Verbal Jint and JeA. Both of them released chill songs this month, so I'm talking about them together.

But I don't want to be lumped together with anyone else. Don't I deserve your full attention?
I thought you loved me. Or was it all just lies?

Cheerz : Kara "Step"

This week's Cheerz is the "I need energy" edition. I've felt like I've been dragging all week, so I've decided to re-implement the use of kpop as a stimulant.

Country Kpop

Ugh, I've started to care about 4Minute subgroup 2Yoon.*

My change of heart came about this week when Cube announced the concept of the group's impending album: country pop.

Oooh, sounds gimmicky.

Review: SNSD "I Got A Boy" album

I've already shared my thoughts on "I Got A Boy" and "Dancing Queen," which perplexed me for different reasons.

Now it's time to discuss the rest of SNSD's "I Got A Boy" album.

I Spy: A Bunch of Shit That Doesn't Make Sense 3

It's time for another round of "I Spy: A Bunch of Shit That Doesn't Make Sense"! Today's game focuses on the rampant oddities in SNSD's "I Got A Boy."

This edition was harder to put together because in true SM fashion, the backgrounds throughout the video are boring as all get-out, except the street background, which looks like it was lifted from Lee Hi's "1,2,3,4" (then lame-inated). For that reason, this round focuses heavily on outfits.

snsd forced me to like a pink

Now that SNSD has gone from girl to next door to crack dealer next door I've been looking for something, anything to fill that void.

Cheerz: Tara "Why Are You Being Like This?"

Underrated sums up this week's Cheerz pick. Lost in the sea of earworm songs, member changes, and drama was this gem from late 2010, "Why Are You Being Like This?"

Love it.

Review: SNSD "I Got A Boy"

No review is fully objective; it can't be. Everyone has biases. My bias toward SNSD isn't hidden — it's splashed across the front page of my blog and in my profile name, too. That's why this is the most difficult review I've made on here so far. I can't even pretend to be objective about it.

Now that that's out of the way, let's talk about "I've Got A Boy."

Kpop 2012: the good

2012 was pretty good for kpop. "Gangnam Style" went global, some established groups had good comebacks, and a handful of great rookies hit the scene. Here, Soyeon Friend and I compiled our faves from the year. Unlike the bad kpop of 2012 list, this one centers mostly around the music itself rather than scandals, etc; it just happened that way. We still included a mix of artists, songs, an album and a drama, though. Thus, without further crappy intro, here are our picks for the best of kpop 2012, in no meaningful order:
